German car manufacturer Audi offers its A3 customers a new generation Owner’s Manual in the form of an AR application.
The eKurzinfo app uses two- and three-dimensional tracking technology to deliver information about parts of the car. The user simply positions the phone’s camera over the part he wants to identify or get more information about.
The application helps the car owner identify more than 300 elements of the car and quickly pull up how-to and 3D overlays of maintenance instructions. This AR feature is particularly useful for the more complex engine compartment.
By using virtual overlays of step-by-step instructions for smaller measures such as topping up the windscreen washer water, customers can easily and intuitively fix smaller issues independently with less frustration, and without the need to pay for specialist repair.
